One-of-a-kind handmade mug created by Misao Yajima by her distinctive "kakiotoshi" technique.
"Kakiotoshi" involves covering the surface of a white clay base with black clay and then carving into it with a blade to reveal patterns beneath. The finished look is like a woodblock used in printmaking.
The contrast between the stark black and white, combined with a sense of three-dimensionality, creates a truly impactful visual. It's the kind of mug that, when filled with a generous amount of milk coffee in the morning, seems to invigorate the spirit
The dimensions provided translate to approximately:

The same story is painted a little bit differently for two vessels with the same pattern.
Misao Yajima uses various techniques such as overglaze painting and scarping to create her works.
"It is the change of the four seasons and what I felt at that moment give the pattern of the works." -- Misao Yajima
